300/440/550 FIXED!! If you're having problems, check the fuel lines

'87 js550. Stock bn44 carb, I think.

She's acting like the main jet's plugged. Doesn't rev up unless I play with the primer.

She didn't start acting like this until I was playing with waves and the main fuel line fell off. I then used the primer to get most of the way back.

Where's the jets on these carbs?

They don't have replaceable jets, it's just screws basically. There is a hole that could be drilled out for more fuel, but no jet per se.

I was looking for the jet so I know where to spray cleaner and air to get the crap out.

Nevermind. Found it!

Every thing's (pretty much) tucked under the fuel pump.

Still, I didn't see any dirt or crud. The diaphragm was not torn.

I'll know if I'm zeroed in on the problem tonight...

Try replacing the Primer. They are known to go bad and will let air in and cause the problem you are describing. It's 20 bucks that could save you alot of headache.

To test that, I could just block off the primer port.

It's definitely not the primer.

I've given up on that carb. I'm going to try sticking Wayne's sbn44 carb on it and see how she does.

I've put the needle settings back to stock, with worse results. I guess I just don't know how to tune this carb... :shrug:

Got the SOB working. It was an air leak in the line between the fuel filter and the gas tank.:doh:

Go figure. :shrug:
