My first time ever peeking inside one of these engines and thought I would post up some pictures so the fine minds here at the X could tell me if something doesn't look right. Or maybe looks after market? Also if its possible to tell if it has had any porting work done?

It looks pretty grimy in there should I clean it up with some wd40 or something?

And for the water routing, on the stock head this hose went to the stock head from the Coffman (sizzler?) exhaust and that was it. Should I get a fitting and put the hose into the side of the ProTec head, and block off the top fitting? Or should I run a hose from the top fitting to a pisser?

Looks rich to me too. Did you clean anything before taking the pics? How long has this engine been running before you opened it? Can we see a pic of the domes on the stock head?

I wiped some of the gas/oil off the top of the piston with a paper towel before the picture. I picked up the SJ in March and probably have 4 tanks of fuel through it. The latest tank was with 91 octane. I am not sure how long it was ran before I got it. I can post up a pick tonight when I get home of the stock head. How do I adjust the richness? It runs well with great throttle response so I don't want to mess with it if I don't have to.

If its running right don't mess with it!!

As I suspected you had cleaned up a bit, so we can't really tell much. Found this pic a while ago somewhere on here. Cant find the link to the original thread. This just gives you an idea of what poizen was talking about.

Yeah I didn't wipe that much off of it. Going off that pic I am way to rich! Any threads that show how to adjust the carb using a tach?

I talked to Carl at ProTec (Very helpful guy) and he told me to run the hose from the exhaust to the side of the head, and than run a hose from the fitting on top of the head out to the pisser. Right now I have the exhaust running to the pisser so to dump that and just run the exhaust cooling line without a pisser.

the most common way is to add another pisser. you can leave it as it is and send the fitting on the front of the head to its own pisser. or if it was mine i would add the pisser further up towards the nose. that way you can send the front headpipe line straight to the new pisser at the nose and t down to the stinger along the way, then ofcourse you would run the line off the front of the head to the existing pisser.

if that makes any sense

Is there any benefit to running a pisser off the exhaust? Any benefit to having less water going through the waterbox?

I'm going with everyone else here and saying youre too rich. There is the Mikuni tuning manual which is golden and a sticky for ski tuning from Watcon on the Watcon site or here somewhere. PM me your address and I'll send you a hull bypass fitting, aint sayin its gonna match what you have but I'm sure free will work lol. And whats with the duct tape on the bypass line? Go to the auto parts store and get some 3/8 low pressure fuel line and redo the water lines.

Are there any threads or info on how to tune with a Tach? My dad has one I can use. I am just not sure how to go about it? Is it as easy as tying it to the trailer and:
Adjust low speed screw tell it idles at 1100rpm?

Adjust high speed screw tell it's at 7000ish rpm?
