First time Square...continued

I have installed watercraft factory foot holds and now I'm increasing the strength of the haul. Check the prior link out and give me pointers for a simple reinforcement! Planning on mostly flat water but I plan on riding some surf this summer. Next winter, planning on ripping out the motor and doing the haul right!

wall

filled the joint with 404 and ran fiberglass up the wall and across the haul. Just want to get my boat ready to ride for the summer. Add a little strength.

I think I see random mat in one place, tooling mat in another, mabye its the pic, but it just looks all over the place. Did you read any build threads before starting? Your supposed to get rid off all the white (down to the metton) before glassing. Not a huge deal but.

help

thanks for all the help......hull.....I did get rid of the the white after I was instructed too...Just a small area of white left.

I guess you are all right, should have done it right the first time. Learn from my mistakes....

Wasn't going to do any glass work but felt like I should something the help the HULL.

Like the title says "First time"

Looking for any positive or negative comments

agree

I agree with you! Just wanted the ski to make it through the summer! Never pulled a motor before and was a little scared to do soooo...

Hope to learn a bit this summer and grow!

I will keep you all posted!

Glassing nose

ground the ribs down and foamed in the holes. What a mess! I had fiber glass and foam everywhere! I will post picks of the fiberglass once its dry!

Well if its your first time with glass, I'll give you that, but I really cant make out what you did. It honestly looks like its piece-mealed together from random scraps of glass. Next time, you want to make it as neat as possible, if you have random scraps, you'll have strong points and weak points, it will crack where you have changes in strength. You want ideally two or three tapered layers across the sides, each going full length, the smaller layers only vary in height, and go on the bottom (so if that bond fails its not the entire laminate), and the bigger layers go on top. You want the glass to overlap neatly so that the impacts are smoothly transferred across that.

Get a few books on fiberglass, or find a good composites forum, as its very tough to describe the perfect way as depicted in what I've read in just a paragraph or two.

when laying glass its best to use the biggest pieces of fiberglass you can. bunches of little pieces won't do you much good.

you coulda left whole ski alone. reinforcing is really only necessary when your going inverted. and even then lots of people havn't reinforced.

keep looking through the buildup pages and look at what other people have done then you will get a good idea of what has to be done and ways to do it.

it just takes time you will get the swing of it.

Thanks

Much appreciation for the advice! Getting an education on this fiberglass work.

About the reinforcing thing, your right everything I have done has been piece mealed together. should have done alittle more research before I began.

I'm a work in progress!

Nose Reinforcement

Three layers of glass in a U-shaped fashion in the nose! Feel much better about nose area! Ready to start assembling things now!

Any input on installing a rev limiter?

For the b-pipe install the manifold and slide the chamber into place, might have to remove the tank. Install the coupler onto the headpipe and then install the headpipe, pushing the chamber back onto the coupler. Make sure the clamps are losely in place beforehand. ADA head: if it is a girdled head torque down the head bolts first followed by the girdled studs.

ADA recommends to place the water outlets on the carb side. Anyone ever place them on the pipe side??? Any benefits to having them on the carb side?
