First time riding- tired... questions

Yesterday was my first time riding a standup and my arms hurt like hell. Hopefully this gets better with time? I have 2 questions about my 750sx now that I got to ride it:

1 the back end dosent seem to want to stay in the water, the nose feels like it is heavy and it keeps losing traction?

2 is there supposed to be a handlebar spring to make the bars turn to one side when you fall? this thing goes in a straight line?! (but eventually stalls out)

Thanks

On 2, no. Standups do not like to go in a straight line because they have a flat hull. They will lean over to one side and that makes them circle to the opposite direction. However, if the idle is too low or too high, they will go straight. There is a fairly decent rpm range where they circle. Shoot for 1200rpm in the water.

#1 Do you have a scoop grate on the ski that will help allot.

Allot depends on your stance and where you place your weight in the tray move your weight around and find out what works for you.

Its not only endurance physically that you will gain. Once you are more comfortable on the ski you will be less tense. When I was 25 (in good shape) and rode surf for the 1st time I was in pain for 2 days after. Now I can ride surf @ (38 yrs. old out of shape somewhat) and I am only sore for 1 day.
When your nervous (subconsiously) your tense and that will cause more soreness then anything.

Rider positioning is huge in keeping a ski stable and hooked up, this will take time to learn. On a kawi you need to let the ski carve in turns (IE lean and turn with the ski) keeping pressure only on the foot oposite the direction your turning, dont fight the ski.

Hope this helps.

This is my first year riding too. MY first time out, I got my butt kicked. Went home and was like, man this is harder then I thought! Next day I went out, and I was much better. Like I thought about it in my sleep or something. The more I ride now, the better I get. I'm so addictied! Just keep riding and you will figure it all out.

but like fanantic said, the more u do it , the better u will get ...

i think i wiped out like 20 something times on one day this weekend ! fun !

ya, I wiped out alot the first day, and I still do! But that to me is part of the fun. I bought wamiltons freestyle video aswell. Just a thought if your interested in freestyle it has some good pointers in it, its helped me a bit so far. Now IF I can just pull off some of the tricks in it! :splatt:

Ride lots. That will help more than anything with endurance, strength, form, and ability.

congrats on getting out there. the first few times you will be sore because you are using muscles not usually used. that soreness will either go away or you will eventually not notice or care about it.
set your idle low so it stalls and/or don’t let go when you fall.
