Surfriding first time in the surf yesterday(ponce inlet)

And got my @ss handed to me by mother nature!! Man, i really suck, but it was fun for the little bit i was out running around Ponce Inlet. Glad i didn't go to sebbie like i initially was gonna. I'm sure everybody on the shore and jetty got a good laugh at my newbness out there getting tossed around like a ragdoll.
Can't wait to do it agin , hopefully it'll be nicer weather next weekend and would prefer to not go out there alone either.

cause i don't have a sticker for volusia county beach riding, and i'm a true newb and would probably be more of a danger to others around me, that's this weekend? damn, i would went down there afterwards if i had known if nothing else just to watch.

First time in the surf + inlet + riding alone = bad idea, you would have probably been much safer at the zone where somebody could drag your ass into shore.

ya man, you should of came to the freeride. im very comfortable riding in an inlet/surf but im still relativity new. the freeride would of been a great place to learn. there are tons of riders which means tons of eyes. we all watch each other.

I thought the freeride was racing? I read some threads about it and saw it was a race event, I'm not really into racing , hell, I'm happy to just keep one ski at a time runable so I can bop around a little.
And don't I need a sticker/helmet to ride the beach? The only helmets I have are motorcycle helmets. I got no cart either to launch from a beach. I've got a nice stand but until I swap the hard tires for some nice large airs I got no means of getting a ski on the surf.
No, I'm not going out alone again either, I just went out for a few minutes and as soon as I came outta the jetty I knew I didn't want to be stuck out there by me self .

No, it was a freeride! The racing was just part of it and thrown in as an added attraction. Yes, you need to buy a sticker and wear a helmet, however they don't care what kind of helmet. Someone or several skiers are usually at the Daytona Zone on weekends and would help you launch your ski. Check Volusia beach zones on the web for rotating locations.

Ponce Inlet, stalled motor, alone with an out going 5 knot tide will sweep you out to sea so fast you won't believe it ! that's very dangerous to ride there alone even if experienced...

i didn't have a beach cart but the first person i asked was more than welcome to let me use his and even help. when it was time to load i just caught someone that was just was tired i as i was from the long day of riding and he helped me push and load mine then i helped him.

i only rode sunday but it was just a stretch of beach free to ride in. i found that i liked the left side because it was less crowded and i could stretch out a little more. while riding i could recognize skis from the x, it was kinda interesting to see the rider behind the name.

Thnx every1. I'd like to come to the zone but most likely will just watch. 1) I don't realy want to put somebody else in danger by a newb move of any kind. 2) i don't know if i even got enough power (stocker js550's) or can even figure out how to get through the surf without eatin it hard a bunch of times and hopefully not breaking anything 3) I don't have any limit straps, and not sure how much a M/C helmet would end up weighing once it gets dunked.
I wanna go, and learn , but i also want to make sure i do not get in anybody's way of enjoying themselves.

1) There is plenty of room for everyone, if you have an ounce of common sense you will be fine.
2) JS550 will be fine on a calm day, stay away from big surf days.
3) Straps are highly recommend, but if you you ride conservatively (you did say JS550, LOL) you will be OK. Go buy a BMX or hockey helmet to start....

The regulars in Daytona will help you, just ask. If you are a cool dude, most riders will go out of there way to help you.

Don't ride by yourself.

A wet motocross helmet isnt very heavy... I use my retired dirtbike racing helmet because the visor is broken off, the condensed foam has a dent in it from smashing my head into the ground, and the carbon/kevlar has a crack in it.
Any helmet is safer than no helmet. Riding alone in surf is not a good idea either (especially as a rookie)

I'm not riding alone, And I meant motorcycle helmet when I said M/C I didnt mean to confuse with motocross. I shoulda known better than going out solo, I just wanted to get my feet wet I guess. I keep trying to get a friend to come over to the beach but his gas hog is too expensive for his budget right now. I'll see about heading over some weekend. My only other concern is my extinguisher falling out, the 85 needs a new cap it keeps coming loose and not sure what anyone would say if it ended up coming off and out goes an extinguisher. I need to fix the 88 and either rob the bilge from the 85 or buy another one.
