FX-1 First ride on my FX1

34F air temp and had to ride it for the first time; broke ice in a few spots, but all in all a great ride. Only my hands got cold.

'94 FX1
Protec rideplate
Protec grate
Solas prop - unknown pitch
Stock everything else - including the pump.

Impressions:

Wow! This thing is gonna be a riot when I'm not worried about falling.
She likes to porpoise unless you balance your weight correctly.
WOT blasts were awesome, a bit squirrelly but not bad after I figured out the hull.
Anytime she leaves the water; pump hook up time is extended and cavitation is evident; my SJ hooks right back up after leaving the water.

I think the pump swap is in my future, but I'm nervous and never have done glass work. It looks like the 140 Kawi pump is a bit easier than the 144 Yam pump? I've read, looked at pics, etc; but I'd like to find someone local to me who has done the swap. Anyone in the metro Detroit area done one?

Cut that pole down bro....Take out that TOP CURVE...it will lean u alot more forward
put in the bigger SJ tank for the extra Gal. of gas
throw some sweet tubbies on for great stablity


those r the basic mods which worked great to start out for me bro...

and they dont mess up a thing....they help all aspects....imo

tom21 are the best imo for the FX1....perfect fit....longer and better then all the others

l would like to try out a set before committing to them on my fx.Even though we have about 6 or 7 fx1's around here,no one has got a set.

Would appreciate any other fx owners making comments on their tubbies.......

I have a new set of Tom21 fx tubbies sitting at the house Don. Come help me put them on and you can try all you want!! I installed a gas heater in the shop last night so I'm ready to do work.

I enjoy the fx1 w/o the tubbies, but that doesn't mean you will. I did prefer the pump swap though. I think you are wise to learn to adapt to one change at a time, feeling it all out slowly as you go along.
