Excessive Black soot out of exhaust

I am running the same fuel / oil mixture in multiple skis. All are pretty clean where the exhaust exits. One of them is completely black for a good 6 -8 inches along th side of the ski.

Would this be an indication of running lean or rich?
or some other problem?

probably rich because tuning in my ski it was real fat and when i leaned it out the black stuff went away

good question - i had the same issue. but my 'ski ran so snappy/great i never wanted to lean it out or screw with the carb anymore once i got it to where it is now.

some times when it get loaded up like whn i have to idle for a while it does it..also if you ingest water it will douche out your bottom end
