Epoxy bottom of hull??

I am in the process of rebuilding my SuperJet... The whole ski has been painted and cleared with automotive urethane 2k clear. I just reinforced the engine bay with west systems epoxy resin and glass... maybe a stupid question... but has anyone ever applied a thin layer of epoxy resin to the bottom of their ski to protect it? this stuff cures rock hard and is clear.. would think i could sand down the clear with 400 and brush on a layer. thoughts?

can and has been done but epoxy will not stay clear long so painting is mandatory and so is adding fiberglass.
resin by itself won't hold up.

Maybe I'll get it all the way around NEXT time....

Resin by itself gets very brittle too - add some gel coat. You can brush it on as well.

Fill the scratches with epoxy / cabosil paste, sand smooth, paint. You can do microspheres instead of cabosil because it's easier to sand but easier to sand is also easier to scratch.

Epoxy itself has no uv resistance and you must paint over it or it will yellow even with dyes.
