Engine temp gauge

Maybe overkill for most riders but how feasible would it be to make some sort of inline temp sender/dash mounted gauge or warning light? What would be the bet way to attach to the engine? some sort of inline brass fitting off the npt cooling line port on a/m 701 cyl head?

I put one on my ski, like a trail tach but with the temp sender option. Didn't feel the spark plug sensor would fit the spark plug bung on Ada head. I used a 1/8 pipe plug and drilled and tapped it for the sensor. Routed the wire thru a grommet in dash and velcroed the gauge to dash. The water in the engine is running about 20 deg colder than the temp sticker on the metal indicted. So plus 20 deg to get your engines metal temp. If you machine the 1/8 pipe so the sensor touches the metal pipe plug you'll get you metal temp reading.

Older snowmobiles used a basic sending unit and dummy light on the dash. Shouldn't be hard to rig at all.

They typically didn't come on until you had already melted down though...
