Yup, I like the Threebond 1211 best so far. Had some problems the last time I tried Yamabond. Be sure and pressure test the engine to check for air leaks before you reinstall.

Threebond 1211 or Yamabond 4 for the case halves. All other gaskets go on dry. It would also be a good idea to put some extra 2 stroke oil on the crank bearings to make sure they are lubed up good for the inital startup.

Loctite 518...it's red and seals when there is no oxygen, but the excess on the outside of the case doesnt dry so don't get worried. It's the same red stuff that use to seal the crank cases from the factory. Put the crank in the top half first, it's a lot easier to get the dowel pins lined up right. Thats what I would use before anything else.

I thaught that seadoo was the only one who used that. I have also heard that if you use 518 you cant use anything else in the future if you have to split the cases again. Meaning nothing will stick. Has anyone else heard this????????

The problem with 518 is that if there is a gap anywhere that is exposed to air at all it will never seal. The bonding and sealing characteristics of 1211 are superior in every way.

Don't use 518 or 515 locktite, It won't last with any hi-performance yamaha motor, that you up the rev-limiter... too much vibration and WILL NOT SEAL up the area by the front crank seal! USE THREEBOND #1211 or #1104

yeah but do i have to compress them to get them in? they seem tight as S***! should i just frce the crap out of them?

D-Roc

I forgot!
hmm i always used needlenose on the end of the clip and stuck one side in the groove then turned the clip towards the seated end so it compresses then push it in until it seats properly, then once they are all done check them all aver again to make sure.

hate to jack this thread, but just a quick question, my 650 was supposedly top end freshened in 97, but on the case halves, I noticed a white glue joining the cases. The previous owner wasnt much of a wrench or spec head, so Im thinking mabye the crank was freshened as well and he just forgot or didnt know? (Im third owner)

What color was the OEM case sealent, I cant even notice it on my 700, but there is a noticeable white line surrounding the cases on the 650.
