Engine Compartment Paint?

Has anyone tried that stone finish paint in their engine compartment? I know they sell it at Home Depo. I was either thinking that or the speckle paint body shops sell for the trunks of cars. I want something rough, and durable, and I wan't it to cover well.

i think it will work well. but it will be smooth when finished

I never tried that stuff but I use other Interlux products. I painted five watercrafts and I used Interlux on all of them. You can apply it with a foam roller and it looks like it was sprayed.

I would use that stuff but I want something with a rough finish to cover all of the imperfections under my hood.

I don't have a close up and I can't take one because I started stripping off that paint today. That picture was taken two years ago right after I painted it. I bought a new hood, nose, and pole so I am going to do a colour change. The paint is Lauderdale Blue or something like that. Go to yachtpaint.com, that's the Interlux web site. I am going to re-paint it with two part paint.

Don't mean to thread jack but did you have to wet sand the paint to get it that nice ?
How did it hold up over the time you had it ?
How much paint did you need and how many coats did you end up putting on ?

That picture got me all excited and I thing the square needs a new color ASAP so sorry for all the questions.

Now that you mention it, I did wet sand a bit. I think I used 1000 and 1500 grit before I polished it with an electric buffer. I did a couple of white ones and didn't have to sand or polish at all.

For some reason the Blue Toplac on this Superjet didn't cure rock hard like the other ones I did. I took it outside when it was -30 a couple of days after I painted it, maybe that did something to it. It wasn't as durable as the white and black paint jobs that I did.

I put on four coats but you only need three. One quart is enough to do a ski. I am going to use the two part paint this year on my Superjet.

Thank you for the info, I apreciate it.

I was going to keep my square stock looking, didn't want to spend money on fancy paint when I still have a motor to build.
However, this looks like it's worthwhile.
