Electronically Controlled, Variable Ignition Timing 08+ Superjet?

I have been curious for a while and can’t find an answer on how (what components) the 08 and up Superjets are electronically controlling their timing. Mainly, can this easily be added to older 701 SJ’s. I would love to just look at one, but I am stuck in a desert and don’t have that privilege. Would love to learn about this one.

It sure looks like the CDI part numbers are the same for pre and post 08’s, and I don’t see anything extra on the parts list between the years. ‍♂️.

All the 2 stroke model 61X/62T based ignitions run same CDI type. The OEM CDI have slightly different timing and RPM limiters. But would be interchangeable.
MSD Enhance has been the main aftermarket CDI for many years. There has also been others, Those didnt last long. The timing on those is set by adjusting the stator position. The NEW CDI for the 61X/62T is the Zeeltronic Y62T CDI.
This CDI has user programable software for write curves, and adjust timing electronically.
If you would like to discuss your options with this? Feel free to call me direct 404-405-0208, After New Years please!

Thanks, Paul

Awesome, I would love to have that conversation. I am still stuck on the Yamaha OEM variable ignition timing and if it really was variable like they claimed. All the component part numbers are interchangeable throughout the years.

Yamaha kept their old cdi through the entire production or 650-701s These will retard a little for starting and idle only. The 760 cdi was computerized but I never checked its timing. The gp800 used Kawasaki 750-800 style stators and cdi boxes which can be programed for various timing curves. If you are running a Kawasaki 750 cdi pay attention to the numbers on box, the 3728-3733 have no retard curve and arent good for a piped engine. I never tested the 3734 box but the 3735-up pull the timing back at high rpm. Kawasaki 650s cdi was computerized with a better curve around 1991, their numbers will start with a 2 instead of a 1.
