Hey All,
OK...I've done a few bolt on mods lately (2000 SJ...check sig link for full specs), so I'll describe in case it makes anyone say "hmmmm...yeah...that's it". That said, I bet my stator or MSD Enhancer has gone bye-bye.
1) R&D Reed Stuffers
-put em in
-new intake gasket
-new dual carb gasket
2) RAD lightened flywheel
-removed 62T stator
-installed 61X stator
-removed stock 62T flywheel
-installed 61X RAD lightened flywheel
-installed lightly used Bendix (as mine had thrown a gear)
-all signs of the metal from the Bendix gear have been cleaned out of the flywheel housing
After these mods I noticed my front spark plug was almost clean....shiny metal and white ceramic. So I richened the high and low jets by 1/4 turn and that wasn't enough so another 1/4 turn....still pretty white and shiny!!! I'm concerned about that, but the electrical issue is my priority (if it don't start, running lean don't matter...hehe).
OK...on to what has happened in the 3 rides since the install...
Ride 1:
Awesome...wholly crap does the flywheel add some pull...all seemed to go fine.
Ride 2:
Went fine until near the end of an hour session. The ski suddenly ran really rough and lacked power. It seemed to want to go if I hit the throttle, but something was holding it back. Went to shore...checked for anything obvious. Went back out and all was well (for another 5-10 minutes that is).
Ride 3:
First 15 minutes was fine...thn the roughness came back followed, although this time the engine would cut out cold while riding. Then it wouldn't start. Got to shore...checked it out...saw nothing obvious....back out...all was fine for a minute or 2 and then it cut out for the final time.
So I got it home...pulled the plugs...turned it over to see the pistons hadn't seized ;-) Tried holding the plugs to the exhaust when turning it over...NO SPARK!.
No I didn't check the fuse...but I will ;-)
Now there is something you need to know about the stator. It has a plug connection in the line that runs from the stator to the electrical box so you can pull the stator or electrical box without pulling both (see pics). It may be at fault.
Any help greatly appreciated....my electrical diagnosis skills SUCK...but I have a multi-meter ;-)
Cheers
