Does this spring have anything to do with the stator area and idle gear assembly?

Flywheel cover has a brass insert and 2 springs that install in it and they are pretty beefy... i found this thinner spring in the bottom of of the hull and i'm not sure if it's part of stator area / idle gear assembly.

Any advice?

Also how tight should the 2 stator bolts be? The manual doesn't list those specs. i tightened them to 5.6 ft-lb. is it ok?

Manual doesn't list the specs of 7 flywheel cover bolts either... how tight should those be?

That looks like the spring on the nose of the bendix (idler gear). If it is, you have a damaged bendix, or atleast one that came appart. The rear stub of the idler should have one thin fender washer on it. The flywheel cover bushing should have one small washer inserted, then a stout short spring, then one more small washer... Carefully line it up on the nose of the bendix during reassembly.

Stator screws should be good and snug, use blue locktite. I would assume you would use the general torque specs for that diameter screw. I don't honk down on them and have never had one budge on me.

Are you talking about a Yamaha 61x/62T/64X engine?
If you are, I am for sure that is NOT the right spring, looks too long and looks like a Rave Valve Seadoo spring.

Engine is a 701 from 97 superjet.

Bendix seems fine and looks pretty new and when i rotate the smaller gear clockwise it moves forward... then goes back because it's pushed by an internal spring.

So it looks like that part was not original and can be added to other junk i found in the engine bay.

That's not a front cover compression spring or internal bendix spring so just throw in the pile with the rest of your junk.

I would torque the stator screws and front cover bolts to eight fig newtons and use some Loctite on the threads.
