It must be me but I don't see how that yellow tape on the hood could prevent the steering from working.
Aerodynamic drag maybe?
I hope you have that yellow tape on both sides, that should fix it.

i ducked taped a pole that was split all the way across. used about a quarter of a roll, but that sucker never has let go, even on some near vertical subs (only trick knowned at the time)... duck tape is amazing, be we all know this

i dont know how easily that would duct tape right in that joint....but I probably have 13 lbs of duct tape on my ski....oh and zip ties
