When riding surf on a sit-down, is it highly recommended to wear a helmet?

I know it is with stand-ups, but they do much more then couches.

when I used to own and ride a '98 GP1200 and my wave blaster I used to wear a helmet in the surf all the time. Took me one slam into the bars with my face, braking my nose and ripping off the cartillage (sp) from between my nostrils. Helmet for sure.

Depends on what your doing with that couch and how big the surf is. The boys that are rolling their B1's are usually wearing helmets in the pics and vids I've seen.

Preparing for the LSFR.

We only ride lakes, otherwise. So we buy it and will only use it once a year, if that. Maybe only at the LSFR and never again.

I know I need to get 1. I'm checking to see if my wife needs to get 1. I'll be using mine often. I plan on learning some tricks. They're going to be hard on flatwater.:bigok:

Depends how your wife rides and how the surf is. We tend to have pretty rough, washing machine surf in the Gulf and it can toss you around pretty good sometimes, even when it's not big.

It took me a while to get used to it, but now I feel funny riding without a helmet. I didn't start wearing one regular until I got serious about learning nose stabs. Then, you can bet, I was glad I was wearing it.

That one time could very well be worth the price. You can't put a price on your noggin. You don't have to buy an expensive helmet. DO a search on here (PLENTY of threads). You can usually pick one up fairly cheap on-line. Just do your homework.

Well, rule is "Don't do anything that makes me stop riding to take you to the hospital!".

So looks like helmet's the rule.

I was to some stupid Shizz in the surf last fall on my couch and smacked my face ( chin bar on my helmet ) hard enough on the grab bar to break it in half. have also had the boat hit me in the head after losing it going a llittle TOO big.

Not wearing a lid in the surf is like having casual sex w/o a condom... it may seem like a good idea at the time, but it just takes one bad ride to make you regret your decision.
