I'm beat. 3.5 hours of trail maintenance with another 15+ volunteers really gives you an appreciation for how much work it takes to keep trails in good shape and the environment healthy. I plan on going back to ride that section tomorrow to see how it runs now.

I was really amazed at how much work a well established trail needs to stay sustainable and prevent erosion. One section I worked on had a berm that had built up about 5" and was maybe 20' long. It took me and another guy close to an hour to knock it down and get a decent 5 degree close for water runoff. The berm was causing water to run down the trail instead of across it which would have really torn it up quickly this spring.

Here's some pics. Once is of a different berm area and the others are from the area that got the most work around a 150+ year old beech tree that fell last year. The tree falling had caused people to change their route which widened the trail to a section that wasn't sloped properly, plus a lot of hikers were creating their own paths which causes more problems. We rerouted the trail, resloped, and placed the logs to prevent the rogue trails and other issues.
