Custom/Hybrid Definition of Freeride

Hey guys If someone new and oblivious to our sport were to look up the definition of (SURF)Freeride. What would it be?
In all honesty, I would like to write out my opinion but I am only 4 years into the sport with no competition experience. This would be a small paragraph that would have the title: What is (SURF)Freeride?

Lets make this thread sticky to this section if it goes well.

i see freeride as surf riding, only because thats the only name for it. freeride definetly isnt just freestyle tricks, its the whole surf riding experience wether comp or event.

whats funny is the word "freeride" was patented by Cannondale Bicycles in the late 90's..(rocky mountain bicycles was forced to call their team the "fro riders"...im trying to find a link but cant right now)..lots of other sports have used that term for allot longer than jet skiing...so when people say the sport of "freeride" i think its lame because 99.9% of people wouldnt know it was jetskiing u were talking about...freeride jetskiing..that makes sense.

I agree. But also, when you tell people you ride a jetski in the ocean they don't really understand what we're doing.
I've given up trying to explain freeride/freestyle & now just tell people I race jetskis. :confused: You know, the 'old' kind thay don't make anymore?!?! :shrug:

i always say i surf ride standup jetskiis...or if they are complete idiots i just tell them i surf..

I say Jet Ski Moto Surfer to people who are completely clueless. It's a TM name as well "Motosurf" (owned by Jerry M*ther F*cking" Brandon) but it fits well w/ the style of riding we do here.

The way I see it, that term pretty much covers the sport for me since I will not ride flatwater...


The whole freeride discussion get's people panties in a wad, especially flatwater guys..

I always considered freeriding just that. Going out and riding. Ocean, Lakes, creeks, rapids, rivers......

But you do need to ride some river with us trust me on that.
