i have spent the last hour trying to get my impeller off. i dont have the spline tool, but i used an extra midshaft and and put the splines in it, and used a pipe wrench on the midshaft and a pipe wrench on the impeller, i put heat on it, penatrating oil, and had me and another guy stand on each wrench and it wouldnt budge.... what else can i try. i would like to get my new impeller on b4 i ride tomarrow.

Lots of heat. I think they come with locktite from the factory. Need to get it hot enough to melt the locktite or any of that chalky white corrosion. If that fails just use a cutting wheel to cut it off.

seriously, ive done this. been there, hated it, gave up, broke a pump mount ear... gave up AGAIN.

get a BENCH mounted VICE

put the shaft holder tool in the vice, slide the shaft in, and put the impeller spline tool in the inpeller, and get on it with a BIG wrench ( pipe or other) and put your weight on it.

the driveshaft will twist until it gives.

I have never had to use heat or penetrating oil, or anything like that, but I had ALOT of problems until I got a bench mounted vice to hold it all via the driveshaft spline tool.

Be sure and use anti seize when you install the new impeller, it will make it a lote easier to get off the next time. I have had one that was tough to take off before, used a lot of heat and a big pipe wrench, and it finally came off. Check the runout of the drive shaft after you get the old one off, and straighten it if is out of tolerance.

whats max tir?

The bench mounted vice is definitely helpful. I had a huge beefy bench mounted vice and snapped it trying to press a u joint out. Almost broke my sternum when it snapped. My point is that without a vice i put a big box end wrench on teh spline tool and then used 2 c clamps and clamped it down to the bench. Worked about the same.

I think you said you didnt have a spline tool. I would suggest getting one or you will probably maul the drive shaft up pretty bad.

mouth is right. one of the times I changed an impeller I didn't have access to a bench so we put a wrench on the spline end and drove a truck over the wrench. then we put a 6' long 2" pvc pipe over the other wrench and it turned pretty easily. it's all about a long pipe!

ended up getting it off. took it to the dealer and they couldnt get it off, so i went back there to take a look bc they claimed the drive shaft would break if they took it off. turns out the morons were spining it the wrong way, i gave it one try with the vice and it came off.... woohoo time to go ride
