Crankshaft cleaning?

Just stripped the mtr. What's the best way to make sure the crank is grit free prior to reassembling? OK to immerse in petrol/oil mix and blow off with compressed air?

We use mineral spirits from Home Depot with a air sprayer, then blow dry, (Never air spin the bearings, it will damage them!)

Thanks, especially the bearing advice.

I searched some old threads re crankshaft storage. The recommended way (then) was immersed in transmission fluid. If you store this way I take it that prior to re-assembly you should lightly "wash off" as Supertune advised above?

Not to mention the personal safety hazard! We had a guy do this in our shop, the big azz bearing let go and sent stuff flying everywhere!
