Crank replacement/rebuild

How do you when its time for a new or rebuilt crank.

I have one with very faint noise in two of the bearings. It's certainly not chatter but it is audible. The other 2 are dead quiet. I was thinking of replacing the needle bearings and running it. In my experience its the needle bearings that fail...

Good or bad idea? Please advise.

How do you plan on replacing the needle bearings in the big ends?

Suppose that would have to be done by a shop... good point.
