Crank questions on specs

I hate to even have to ask...but how much free play is okay on the rods? I.E, grab the wrist pin end of the rod, and move it back and forth along the axis of the crank. How much is okay?
The Yamaha manual - I think - tells me 2.0mm, or 0.08 inches. It calls it "Small end play". I am not sure if that's the right measurement though.

You talking the gap between the thrust washers on the crank/connecting rod end? If you put the connecting rod all the way to one side and measure, OEM specs are within .010 - .030

No...the rocking motion of the rod. You know, grab the wrist pin end of the rod, and rock it.
How much is okay?

Thats what my 96+ SJ cd manual says 0.08 or 2mm. Also my Yamaha printed 650 SJ manual says the same too.
That sounds like a lot! WTF?

i asked riva the same question once . they said a lot of slop back and forth is no worry( with in reason of course) on these cranks but NO up down play, so i imagine if you grab the small end and push pull it with no play you are ok
