crank failure Qs

anybody ever see this happen? :

no needle bearings on rod big end? and no damage to the pistons, head or bore???

i was riding bouys on sunday on the big bore b1 when i suddenly lost RPMs. i idled back to shore and the coupler was HOT and i could feel play in the crank.

too the engine apart today to find no needles in the rod.... WTF? where did they go?

also, the roda say "82M" on one side and "s" on the other. webs say 6m6.

any idea as to what kind of rods these are?

thats what i can only assume too. the zero damage to the ports, cylinders, pistons, rings, etc, has me baffled though. there are some little scratches in the cases..... not a problem. ill just chalk it up to being one lucky mofo, i guess..... especially since i have a bunch of good used, brand new, and freshly rebuilt cranks in my shop.

anyone know what kind of rods these are?
