650/X-2 cracked piston last year, Top end or just piston replace?

95FX1

brrrrraaaaaappppppp
last year I got a small crack in one piston of the wifes 650sx.
Ski is just about perfect otherwise and never really had an issue, factory pipe and all the goodies
so id like to just give it a lil love and be done with it.

the small metal piece stuck into the head, cylinder looks good still. Not to big of a deal but have a question on the rebuild.

should i get a new top end rebuild or just replace the pistons?

anyone give a few options of where to get the parts either way please.

Thanks in advance for replies...

I'd say if you're rings are good take one, and check the ring end gap with the ring in the cylinder.
Better yet if you can. Check your piston to wall clearance with a :):):):):):) gauge.
Either, or both of these can help you decide how worn you cylinder is.
Outside of those 2, and a visual I'd say your only other option is take the cyl to a machine shop you like, and have em bore gauge it for you against a spec sheet.
I cant tell ya the specs of the top of my head, but I'd bet a few min, and a search you'll find em here somewhere ;)
SBT seems to have good top end kits btw. Lil pricey compared to some, but it seems that ya get a lil more with the SBT stuff..

Has it ever been rebuilt? Is there a chance any debris from the piston has found its way into the crank bearings?
I'd say new crank, bore and fresh pistons. Have someone recut the domes in the head. Then that ski will run for another 10 years....
