complete inclosed msd total loss system for salt water

Put together a ip68 rated dry box with cable passes for msd total loss primarily for salt water ocean use,I tested the coils close to the other elecs before hand out of the box and had no issues till they got wet with salt water, I think its most important to have the coils in the box, keeps more of the coil issues in salt from happening. After putting this box together to have the shortest possible coil wires exposed I was able to use the high output msd coils and get no ign breakup even with the hull taking on large amounts of salt water.Fits in just perfect even with the head pipe installed.

ill take some more next time I pull the motor, only thing you cant see in this pic is the start stop wires and grounds, they are going out the lower left where there is extra room and keeps them outa sight.that and the shifty relay that makes it operate with the stock start stop and lanyard.makes tl so much better.

keith.that is a nice setup,Why the huge 4 gauge ground,it has no load on it,Im using dual 12 gauge grounds, one to battery and one to motor as a backup.
getting a box to work with the large msd brain and twin coils makes things even harder especially if you want it to fit without unbolting the head pipe.

Masterblaster-NICE JOB

not trying to be a dick-but I don't get it
When I come home from riding I pop my hood off to let t/l air dry,
the next day I spray a light film of WD40 on the plate and once a year pack all of my weatherpacks with di grease and thats all the maint I do.

Don't get me wrong-if your box stays bone dry-you have won the lottery, but I think it's still going to draw condensation which is just as bad as standing in water IMO. Hopefully I am wrong and it does stay bone dry-if so-u r the man.

Knoxie..that is nice also, but I really needed the coils in the box for 100% salt water use.

This box is nema 4x ip68 rated, its got a recessed and protected compression seal, rated for submersion, you can hit it with a pressure washer point blank and it will not leak.its the absolute smallest that will allow all componets to be mounted inside.including the switchless module that makes tl work with the stock lanyard,it has no down side at last

A tl sytem used in 100% salt riding will eventually have issues no mater how well you rinse it,coat it.the coils are 10x more likly to short to ground salt coated, the paint peels on the box, water gets inside the tl brain through the wire passes or dip switches and kills it often if the ski sinks,we sink skis at least a few times a yr.there are many threads here detailing all this unnecessary trauma

Nice work Knoxie! I had a box made out of 18 ga ss for US$ 192 and that's without any brackets yet. Of course the coils wont fit into it either.

The ground is huge simply because the advice i got when putting the Total Loss together was that the ground was the most important part - so didnt want to mess around. (Im not much good with electrics to be honest)

It was suggested i put some of those silica gel bags in my set up to absorb any condensation. I didnt as i wanted to see if there was any water intrusion, I have run for 12 months + in both fresh and saltwater - not a single drop of condensation has EVER appeared in there - guess thats the equivalent of the total loss lottery win.

So I found out that deutch connectors arent that great with salt water either,If I had it to over again I would have put the stator connector inside the box also
