cheapest paint for blue rn superjet hood?

I realize its all in the prep work, but I want a paint that can last me a couple seasons that won't chip or flake easily. Im just looking to redo the hood since yamaha forgets to sand the hood before they paint.

Update: Decided I will use a sprayer since I have the equipment here rather than a spray can. Just now wondering what paint will last and look good for the hood.


Any suggestions?

Strip the hood down to bare SMC and use two part epoxy primmer with a urethane enamel top coat.

I just painted mine last winter with cheap matrix auto paint. its not perfect but it looks way better than it did and I only spent about 100 bucks on supplies.

PPG Omni single stage(MTK). You can get everything you need for $50. Great urethane paint from you local PPG dealer at a real reasonable cost.

local car paint shop gave me a bunch of tints to play with

Color Rite is the only company w/ matching Yamaha colors

they own the Yamaha paint codes

had to color match it myself as blowsion sent totally the wrong color
local car paint shop gave me a bunch of tints to play with

looks great, is holding up well

Ya, its good paint. My ski is painted with it also and it holds up real well.
You can just take the hood down there and get the color chip book, take it outside in the sun and match it.

ok, so here is what I ended up getting:

high solids primer with hardner
pint of base paint(close to color of hood)
medium reducer
clear cloat with hardner

Ended up costing around 110 with tax.

Anyone know what grade of sand I should start with on the hood? I bought some 320 discs for my orbital sander, not sure if I should use 220 first?

I start w/ 80 and finish w/ 220 or 180 on a DA sander... I would use 400 grit wetsand paper if I was wet sanding the final filler primer

You may be able to pressure wash off the rest of the old paint. Finish with the 320grt you have. 180grt or 220grt may leave sand swirls you can see under the paint. I use the red 3m scuff pads for hard to get spots.
Take you time when spraying. I would have gotten single stage, but base/clear is ok also. napa & some other places have a 'gun' that they use to match your existing paint.
