So I am putting Christin new ski (Sjetrider's old hull) together. I want to run stock flame arrestors but they hit the head. I trimmed them some, but the opening was still right up against the head. I think Blowsion or Wamiltons makes a spacer to allow them to fit but its $$$$.
So I grabbed the following parts:
short length of 2 OD aluminum pipe
about 7 inches of 6mm (or 1/4) rubber hose
4 6mm bolts 40mm length
I cut a 3/4 inch piece off the aluminum pipe with a band saw (a hack saw would work fine too), and cut 4 pieces of rubber hose. I made them a little bit longer than 3/4 inch. I spent a little time on the sander to make sure the aluminum piece was flat. Then I installed the 4 long bolts through the stock F/A bottom and slipped a piece of rubber hose on each bolt. The rubber hose holds the bolts in place nicely. Then I sandwiched the short piece of aluminum pipe between the F/A bottom and the carb. I tightened up the four 6mm bolts, because the rubber hose was just a little bit longer than the aluminum pipe the tightening of the bolts causes the hose to expand and helps center the pipe around the throat of the carb.
Here are some pics of the finished piece (yes I know that carb is dirty it just one I grabbed off the shelf to take quick pictures).
