Hey guys,
Q1:
I have a roundbody BN carb in my 550sx. It is a good carb, big inatke diameter and so on. No ability to replace jets so usually they get boared. What is a carb that you would recommend as an aftermarket one? If I decide to switch carbs I would like to have something that will give me CRISP response..

Q2:

1 carb vs 2 carbs.

What are the pros and cons, can 1 carb be as good as 2, why do you usually use 1 big carb instead of 2 for e.g freestyle (doue to water coming in or what??)

Thanks for your insight

Andrew

I'm sure you would hear conflicting opinions on this topic.....but this is directly from Group K's website:

We have tested several dual carb kits on the piston port 550's. Surprisingly they offered only slight increases in overall performance (about 1 mph). All the duals we tested proved to be very difficult to tune and keep synchronized. That, along with the high price tags, made them a very poor value. As a result we recommend dual carbs to no one, and we do not use them on any of our piston port 550 kits.

just get a SuperBN44, that way you can replace the jets to fine tune your motor. That motor can only process so much fuel and air, and the 44 handles that just fine.

So what carb do you recommend over stock BN 44mm? Is KEIHIN CDKII a better carb? What's the deal? :)

I've never used a Keihin, so I really can't give any insight there. The stock BN44's are finicky to say the least.....some people have really good luck with them, others don't. However, there are a few advantages in running a SBN 44, replaceable internal components being a HUGE one!

Now, there are down falls too.....if you are not patient enough to learn and practice the aspects of fine tuning then you should stick with the stock carb.

Just my $.02

Thank you guys. You just confirmed what I was suspecting. I was wondering about the fact that Kawasaki mounted Keihin carbs in the later 550 versions..... that made me think about getting one.....
