I've got a stock 61x. Where do I measure the stock carb for diameter reference? I assume it's 38mm. From searching threads I couldn't get a firm answer if I'll need to have the intake bored to accept a 44mm carb/manifold s/u? I'm putting a limited b-pipe, msd enhancer, and new head on it. Will a 44 make any difference over stock?

Stock 61X has a 44mm carb. Measure at the bottom (I think).

my 61x in my fx-1 came with a 38
Yamaha has not used a single 38mm on anything since the 500 I believe. All 650/701 single carb Yamahas were 44mm SBN carbs.

All in all thats a good set up, but it should have a 44, you measure where the throttle shaft is.
