Stock 440 Impeller:

Heated it . . . won't budge.

Cooled the driveshaft . . . nothing.

I have broken two screwdrivers used to hold the driveshaft.

What more do you people suggest?

you have been soaking the threds in penitrating fluid right? I didnt want to say it earlier because I thought you were already doing that but you never know. when the shaft is in the vise and your trying to turn the impetter with your breaker bar try hitting the hub of the imperrer, not too hard to hurt it but a food couple of hits just to free it up. Something about the vibrations can loosen it up.

You need the correct tool that goes around the driveshaft first it is basically shaped like a c with a hole drilled in it for a bolt to go through. Then you need to put something in between the tool and the hull to distribute the stress loads and you will still probably have to heat it till it almost melts to get it to break loose. No regardless of what all these guys keep saying the shaft does not come out of the ski till the impeller is removed.

You can get the shaft out without removing the impeller, I have one sitting on my bench that way that I couldn't get the impeller off of... HOWEVER, I had no regard for the hull or ever putting it back together. Be careful with the "screwdriver through the hole in the shaft" method. I used an allen wrench and actually put enough force on the impeller to have the allen wrench cut a big slot in the hull...

If you can't get it off, I think you can pull the motor and start disassembling the driveshaft holder on the inside of the ski. You'll have to be creative but you can pull the bearings (along with the housing) off the shaft and then you can slide the shaft out the back of the ski.

Nope the bearings are pressed onto the shaft,Like Endo said you could probably disassemble the shaft in the boat but you would have to get very creative, maybe using a jaw type bearing puller to get the bearings off the shaft would work.

Actually a pickle fork and being PO'd does the job pretty well. :aargh4: Just remember that your oil seal will probably be toast after that method. :tomato:

Used a pipe wrench on the shaft while I blowtorched the prop. She eventually broke loose.

I was thinking of something else when I grabbed the prop and ROASTED my left fingers. :banghead:

Just did that last week. I did it with 2 pipe wrenches. The solas prop on there didn't have the place for the tool, it was all filled in. I think I was supposed to use one of those wrenches that uses the prop blades. Got it off. Now it is time to take a sawzaw and cut the ski up!
