As you cross through the border, chew a whole bunch of gum and look repeatedly at your rearview mirror, also ask them to repeat every question.

Or tell them you are importing a PWC, you will have to go into the building and fill out a personal importation form or something like that, only takes a couple minutes, they'll check the ski to make sure things match and sign/stamp your paperwork (which you will need to get the title).

Or, leave our skis alone. We aint got enough for everyone. (jk)

I brought an X2 and a wetbike over yesterday. Same thing from US to Canada and Can to US. Taxes may differ. We pay 14 % on everything. Be prepared for a half hour once your inside the building. They also checked our records while we were there.

help your self to all the couches you want but if its a ski...:starwars:

seriously though...what you looking at getting?? I am sure its no big deal, just make sure you fill out all the necessary paperwork at the border.

I find it funny though that you are thinking of picking something up from up here...its usually the reverse.

I don't know the process of bringing it into MI from ON but I'll tell you what we have to do to bring it from MI into ON.

Example:

Ski purchased for $4000 USD Sale Price

$4000
x 1.05237 exchange rate
+ 195 RIV FEE
x 1.06 GST
x 1.09 Duty (country of origin for Yamaha is Japan, not NAFTA approved)

Make sure you have bill of sale (detailed), you may need a recall letter from Yamaha, Get a current registration or title (if avaliable) from the seller.

You should be good to go.

My guess is you'll pay your state sales tax, 9% Duty, and make money on your exchange rate approx 5%.

You may not have a RIV fee (this is a Canadian thing) and just another $195 we grease the government with. :(

Leave our superjets alone... Take all the Kawis and couches you can find.

When I brought a couple skis back I dont think I paid anything at the border...just whatever it cost at the DMV like usual. Just had to fill out some importation forms.

If the ski was previously owned/registered in the US, you don't get wacked with any fees to bring a ski from CN to USA:Banane01:

I picked my ski up in Ontario with my son, but Chick originally had it reg'd in Florida, and luckily the fellow I bought it from still had that paperwork from when he bought it from Chick. I brought it back through into the US at Niagara Falls(in the bed of my truck, not ripping across the water). I filled out zero paperwork. It did take a few minutes to get through though, because the border dude asked me no less than 5 times "So, you drove 12 hours from Massachusetts to Canada to buy a JetSki?"

All I showed him was the FL registration, and regular border crossing crap(Birth Certificate, SS card, and a note from my wife stating that I wasn't kidnapping my son) and we were good to go.

Try this:

There are a bunch of links on there that should help.

I also called two specific border crossings to speak to someone to see exactly what I needed. Unfortunatley I got different answers from each.

what is a riv fee? I have purchased about 6 different skis from the US into canada ,, I just pay the 14 % tax and thats it there isnt realy any duty just the taxes thats all .. I purchased a X2 , 2 550s ( at the same time) my sxi pro and a seadoo .. just had a pain in the ass with the X2 ( my forst trip) they said " we know you under values it for taxes and if we catch you you will get fined " yada yada .. and I kept telling them NO thats what i paid the called the guy and wanted to see emails etc .. they eventually let me go .. I bough tthe seadoo with nothing more than a bill of sale .. no probs .. they looked at my trailer reg to make sure it was mine that was it no probs at all .. from canada in to the US i am not sure about but i would assume a proper bill of sale along with proper documentation ( we dont realy have ownership just our registartion papers ) good luck to ya ..
