Brass Bushings

So I was thinking as I would like to convert my 750 pole to a Superjet pole and was thinking about making my own brass bushings, thinking they would last much longer. I made a mini chopper and we made a similar bushing for the neck of the bike so I figured it could be used for jetskis.. Am I stupid for thinking this or should I just buy the bushings from blowsion?

Check with McMaster-Carr they have bushing stock in many sizes.

I take it this isn't a great idea and should just go with the blowsion ones, also on the Mc-Master Carr website they had a bunch of plastic round stock I could turn down. Does anyone know what would be a good plastic, they have lots of types, to use instead of brass? Just looking at it, it would cost about $50 for the plastic round stock and then I could probably turn out three sets from that one piece whereas I would only get one set for about $30 shipped.

I unfortunately don't have my ski near me, I'm at school, is the diameter large enough? What are the approximate dimensions I am looking for.
