blaster hood mod?

i heard soome one say something about a blaster hood mod .whats involed ?what does it do .im in the middle of painting if it lightens it i might do the mod if there is one? can any one help me?

What are you primarily using the blaster for? If you're racing then it would be worth it. If you're primarily riding in the surf I wouldn't touch it. The hood is already weak as it is. My hood has two cracks that have started in it from riding in the surf. I plan on doing some reinforcing on it.

I think fl-cracker is the one that has the lightened hood. I'm sure he'll chime in on this thread.

I am also curious to hear how he lightened his hood.

ummmm...sheit, putting me on the spot. lol I will post some pics, and explain what I did in a thread after this weekend. I am not done yet, and would like to get a accurate weight difference. It should still be plenty strong, hoping for it to be as strong as stock...... If somehow I forget by Monday hit me with a PM, Im not trying to keep any secrets, but I am in the middle of the process, and rather be the only one to F-up there hood, if it does not work or take off any weight. I have Hi hopes.

My seat does look pretty sick though, I have to weight the new seat vs the old, and will also let you know the weight difference. Im thinking 6-8lbs? It is custom fo sho! Some may not like though.

^^^^Ooops.... I thought you only fugged it up going for the BF's? I gots to learn how to do BR's and BF's on a SJ before I attempt them on the blaster. I forget were you had to reinforce though. I think I will be making it stronger anyways with using Epoxy reisin. hmmmm.....

I DID screw it up working on BF's....but really, it could have happened doing anything that involved a good slap to the hood (throwing one away). There are two main issues that need to be addressed.

One of them is that the lip around the bottom of the hood is quite weak. Especially the rear of the hood near the seat. A layer or two of extra glass around the interior of that lip will sort you out there.

The other is that Blaster hood almost always have too much play. Latch your blaster hood and then turn it upside down in your garage. You'd be suprised how much your hood will pull away from the hull. It's not such a problem if the ski is just upside down in the water beacuse the pressure will keep it sealed. Problem is that the gap allows lateral movement as well as a sudden jarring impact downward if you throw the ski away or have an akward landing. This makes your weak hood lip a larger issue also.

Pish Posh.....if you learn how to roll the blaster first, rolling the SJ is EAAASY.

p.s. pish posh is far too funny sounding to take out. Even if I do sound 90.

Looks like good enough strengthening to ride with. You are def going big. Just tighten the latch tension and clamp down. I had some extra weld put on the T rod that mates into the latch. If anyone is throwing away a ski during BF attempts sh*t is going to happen to the ski. Repair, reinforce, and try again!!!!

That's actually where I meant to go with that 2nd part.....tighten the latch down.

And yeah, BF's will slowly destroy a Blaster if you aren't making them around.
