Bilge pump switch expericences?

Guys,

I have been using one of the sealed dash mounted 3-way rotary switches for a while, and although it seemed to work flawlessly, I broke it off in the surf last night with my knee when landing a manouvre which I can only describe as a mess.

I was thinking of putting one of those metal cover bars over the top, but also like the idea of the handle bar and stop/start mounted switches.

I'm just wondering what people experiences are with the different types out there? I've heard that the handle bar mounted jobbies don't last too long, and I want something that it attractive and doesn't give you a decent thump in the hand when being shocked on salt water?

Cheers.

I had mine mounted in the dash last season. Not sure if I like that - however, I just turn it on when I go out and don't turn it off until I get back on the trailer, anyhow.

i mounted a Hella Marine toggle last season and watched it corrode to nothingness in 2 weeks in FRESHWATER...id stick away from hella for switches...although i am a firm beliver in their lights

Yep, I quite like it on the dash, I just thought I would try something a little different. Here's the result...

I use one of those blowsion jobs glued to my start stop switch... works great cuz you can turn it on and off with your thumb while never letting go of the bars.

the honeywell mil spec switch is great. I've had it in the salt water for a year with no probs. You can buy them from Jetski solutions.

I've got the Blowsion one on the handle bars that mounts to the stop/start switch on my SJ - haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet, but I'm sure it will be great :fingersx:

Oh, I also knew I wouldn't be using the bilge pump all the time, and I have riders who would never use it ever, so to know when the pump is on or off while riding and without playing with the switch itself, I put a small red LED light on the dash over by the choke knob to show me when it's running at a glance.

I should add that I'm not real good at remembering if up or down is on or off so I got the 3 way switch from JSS up and down are on and middle is off. :cool2:

I break stuff
I have tried the handlebar type and the rotary switches. They all suck compared to the Jet Ski Solutions (honeywell) switch.

You can mound it on the dash and its soo small you will never hit it. I have mine mounted underneath my chin pad for the stealth install. I went through many of the black magnetic ones that mount on the handlbars, they just kept failing due ti salt intrusion. The rotary was better, but the set screw had issues after my knee would plow into it.

Try the JSS, and the price is right.

Well...I am glad I got a JSS switch somewhere in my many boxes of Superjet stuff.

Wattage,
I have had a bilge sitting in my hull for about 6 months now not hooked up cause I didn't know of a decent switch, looks like I'll be ordering a few from JSS (for me and my mates), you want me to throw an extra one on the order, I should be up at the nationals with a bit of luck, or just post it up to you??

Let me know, CC at the ready :Banane09:

The Honeywell / Microswitch is the best switch that I have used. Mine has been installed for 3+ years and is still running strong. I originally bought mine at a local electronics parts house. I think I bought it using the Microswitch part nuber 2TL1-1. This is a DPDT switch so I can run 2 bilges and wire it so one way runs my auto bilge and the other way runs both bilges at constant on all the time. I think I payed around $20 for it. I also run a rubber boot even though it is a sealed switch, mostly to cushion the toggle bat. I like the looks of the JSS model which is a SPDT and they have shortened the bat so I wont stick out so far. Definately good stuff, I have tried the rest and this is the best so far.

Don't get too excited - you're about to be disappointed. That Blowsion bar mount switch is the biggest waste of money: costs a ton and the build quality is awful. Most of the time mine won't switch off, and that's after I sent the first one back becasue it didn't switch off at all. I thought it would be cool to be able to turn it on an off without moving my hand off the bars, but that was when I didn't know better: now I turn the pumps on when I start the motor, and maybe remember to turn them off when I stop. Mostly they just run all day.

Yeh, I agree looks good but Mine wasn't worth a Chit it only lasted a year. On the plus side I put the same on lil oysters ski and no worries for three years.

I use the Blowsion switch and switch cover mounted on the dash, with the cover you won't break them. I have used the switch in the surf for a year and no problems.
