Bad reed symptoms?

What are the symptoms of worn stock reeds? My ski has some major hesitation that is very frequent but not consistent. It has a new professionally ported cylinder and the recommended carbs jets and settings. The inconsistency makes me think it may be the reeds, but I can't tune worth a crap and have never messed with my stock 1996 reeds before. I figured I would ask before I hauled my ski off to my engine builder for tuning (two hours one way).

check your plug caps and ignition coil wires. When the coil wire get old, they sometimes break in between and cause some inconsistent performance.

or maybe your carb setting need adjustment

I figured carb tuning is the most likely culprit but I realized that I don't know what the symptoms of worn out reeds are. I figured I would ask so that I could rule that out without pulling the reeds out.

I haven't run into the problem before but pretty sure bad reeds make it hard to start and give a nasty bog at low rpms.

I know carb tuning sucks but I think your ski is so close that 1/8 to 1/4 turn in the right direction will cure your problem and the same turn in the wrong direction would make it more noticeable. I also think it would be hard to recreate that tuning issue in a shop making the 4-5 hour drive worthless. Put a screw driver under the tank strap and give it a shot. :fing02:
