B Pipe QUESTION???

ive heard there is a noise restrctor plate or somehting like that in the pipe. when i looked in the pipe there is a plate in the pipe close to the smaller end. Is that have a purpose? does it help to remove it?

Also i got a factory pipe waterbox....and when i removed it ....i noticed its got something loose in it that rattles pretty loud....normal?

Check with Pat at X-metal works. I believe he has experimented with the stinger end of the expansion chamber and will have a very good understanding of what and how it works. As for the waterbox NO it is not ormal. What has happened is that a corner of the baffle with one of the crossover tubes has broken free from the baffle. This is common among freestyle and surf riders.

The repair is quite simple...Cut the waterbox adjacent and along the weld in the center of the waterbox, paying special attention to each of the corners as two of them have a crossover tube. Find a reputable welder of aluminum and have him weld the broken piece back into place, then reweld the box together. I use a sawzall and it works great.

The cost of the welding is about $35 to $65 well short of the $400 Yamaha wants for a new one.

I have something in my stock waterbox. I figure its a broken piston ring or something from when my engine exploded.
