Aura Alloy/ RRP compatibility

So, I recently picked up an Aura bracket to use with an RRP cast pole, because an RRP bracket is universally unavailable. Here are some numbers:

I measured ID of multiple RRP brackets on local skis. Each was 6.82x” - 6.83x”, or within about 0.015”. The OD of my cast pole, with bushings installed, is also 6.82x”, meaning it appears that RRP keeps these dimensions really pretty close. Your mileage may vary, but 5 measurements agree. .: RRP OD is 6.82x”

My Aura bracket, when assembled, measures markedly less:

So, 6.72x” - 6.75x”, which means about 0.090” SMALLER than the pole with bushings. That’s not a “just force it” difference.

So, I had the thick bushings that come with the pole modified to be about 0.050” thinner than the thin bushings (otherwise the thick are scrap, so this way they get usefulness), bringing the total OD of the assembled pole-end to be about 0.010” less than ID of bracket.

It all drops together nicely now, with no side to side lash, and no misalignment of the bolt holes due to bending the bracket.

So, does it work? I guess it depends on your definition of “work”. It can be made to, yes. Maybe this is normal across the board, I don’t know. But, here’s info for the next guy to learn from.

Edit: note that the bushings are bigger than the hole they go into by, well, I forget how much… a lot. Maybe 0.050”?? It was substantial. So that end of the bushing got turned down to be 0.005” bigger than the hole. Without doing this, the hole through the bushing was crushed down after being seated… and ended up being so tight on the pivot bolt that it needed hammering in. After modification, bolt slips right through without slop. That’s really unrelated to the fit with Aura pole, but very closely involved.

Sheesh. I'm pretty sure my friend who just finished a new V3 build with a billet aura pole and bracket that came on the ski had to modify the bushings to fit as well and couldnt run a pole spring either. You would think matching brand of pole and bracket would work together without having to modify something first.

Every new Rickter pole/bracket with new Rickter bushings that I've assembled required cutting down the bushings.

I have a billet rrp bottom and a blowsion bracket. When I got bushings for it from JM they fit like a glove, required 0 modification. My friend with the V3 had a fx1 before with a blowsion bracket and same aura pole and it also fit perfectly and could also easily use a stock pole spring. For whatever reason the aura bracket spacing is shorter.

I have an rrp billet pole that is 6” wide at the bottom where it fits into the bracket. Question are all the am brackets 5.5 or 6”+? My rrp pole wont fit the 5.75’’ bracket. Would there be another pole bottom i could buy?
