Are sj pump shafts supposed to be tapered?

Are the SJ pumps supposed to have tapered pump shafts? At the splines it measures 17.7mm and it tapers down to 15mm. It also looks to have been shortened and welded. The shaft seems straight though. I just have a feeling that ive got the wrong shaft in this ski.

they are all welded! that´s normal. i don´t know (never mesured or noticed) the tapered shape

Has to be tapered... The splines are bigger than the majority of the driveshaft. I never actually measured it but even the 750 driveshafts are tapered but the SJ shafts are more obvious if I remember correctly.

Ok good to know but all this came about because i was trying to make up the gap between the prop and shaft that you can see in my pics. Any one know what im missing there? I tryed to use a mag light head but it didnt help because of the shafts taper. If it slips over the shaft by the time it gets to the prop it has the same gap.

Also normal. Looks like the skat track prop that I have/had installed. Those props don't use nose boots like most. That gap won't hurt your performance at all. The better alternative to the standard rubber nose cone is the aluminum cone which would have to have the similar gap or it wouldn't fit over the splines.
