A lot of literature I've read in the past few years mentions 80mm pistons for the 6M6, giving 685cc. The only big bore kits I can find for the 650 motor currently are 701 (81mm) kits.

Are the 685 kits suddenly obsolete? And if so, why the switch?

suddenly? if by suddenly you mean 13 years then yes, they are suddenly obsolete.

Gee, sorry I asked. They were mentioned in a PWI article in 2005, and still referred to on the Group K web site. Sorry to waste your time.

don't take it the wrong way. It's an old and very cheap motor. any mods you do will be worth more than the motor and the results will be sub-par compared to a 701 based motor.

free is not always cheap. LOL

it also sounds like it needs a top end.

a used crank - $150 or so. I'd guess that topend would run at least $200

add machinist time for boring, a gasket kit, and your time to assemble and that "free" motor just cost you $500

Okay, if somebody will just point me to where the $500 701 motors are...

got to keep your eyes open and an ear to the ground.

I traded a new hood and nosepiece for one. ($400 value)

someone else I know found a wrecked blaster for $200 (good motor in it.)

and watch the classifieds here and at PWCT
