are 300sx's not cool anymore??

so i got into skis in 2010 with a 750sx, everyone was building 300sx conversions. well i was offline and just enjoyed my 750 for years and now am buying a bob. but i have a 650sx (hit a stump hull nose is trashed) and a clean 300sx hull. is there a reason noone is doing connversions anymore? i was going to throw the two together so my gf has a more fun ski to ride.

No tons of people are still doing them. Pwctoday has more Kawasaki folks and more builds for them, that's all. This forum is more Yamaha and a/m hull guys.

And it depends on who you are trying to impress. Vintage guys will always think a 300sx is cool, then add muscle and it becomes really cool. Might be less impressive to the aftermarket hull guys but hey the 300sx/750 is a good stepping stone to those anyway so it might not be too bad anyway.

My advice just build it and have fun. Especially if its for your gf. Any vintage ski is cooler than any new 300hp sit down anyway.

oh the new boats that they call seadoo's are stupid. i prefer riding a stock 300sx to one of those lol. i was mostly just wondering cause about 4 years ago this board was filled with 300sx builds.... looks like everyone moved on to bigger better things lol. i cant wait to enter the aftermarket game and see what its all about. see if all this hype about yami motors is true ;) lol.

I might be slightly biased.. But my brother and I own both. A Kawasaki can be built to be as strong of an engine and in many circumstances may even be stronger in terms of outright HP.

Yamaha's are good for low end because the port timing of the cylinder is lower and the pumps are bigger, that's all.

A 750sx freestyle ported is as good as you can get for low end on a kawi, but I have yet to compare a fully built one. Most of our skis use more middle of the road 800 ported cylinders or lime green head type.

plan is for now to drop the 650sx setup in the 300sx, run the bob off a 6m6 and yami pump (because thats what its coming with) and then work over my small pin 750sx with a 144 yami pump for free ride and running the rivers. we will see how it goes. would lov to find someone to freestyle port my small pin and see how it goes.

That sounds like a good plan. A ported 750sx cylinder ski with a factory pipe and a big pump should give any superjet a run for its money. There's a build or two on pwctoday where guys put 148mm Kawasaki pumps in 750 hull skis. I'm not sure whats easier, but if you go the 144 route be sure to post up how you get it to work.

looking at the 148 kawi pumps... not sure if i can fit one in there. not a lot of detailed info on it. thanks for the lead though. would be sweet in the 300sx down the road when it gets more power
