Another SJ ignition question

I am looking to get a new ignition is my 97 SJ. I was running an MSD enhancer with stock flywheel but the enhancer crapped out. I am debating as to go with an T3 advent or MSD TL. I am new to electrical systems and not real good at tuning so weary of going with a TL. Also, in searching threads and other sites I have seen a few times that a TL may not be the way to go if you have not ported and bored your engine. Right now I have a shaved head with stock domes running 92 octane pump gas. Factory B pipe and Dual Full Spectrum Carbs/48MM with filters and covers. Should I be looking at going to a TL or just step up to an Advent T3 until I do some more engine mods next winter? Thanks for any advice.

Both advent and TL will require ignition tuning with their programmable curves.

The TL will require more work to install right. If you ride saltwater, stay away from TL.
TL is always good, not just when you have porting. IMHO.

Hey mabe try the WAX INFERNO, just installed one in my Blaster. You can program the curves yourself and you keep the charging system. It made a nice difference and you have the added safety at high rpm.

Thanks for the advice guys. I ride freshwater so the TL sounds good but that is a lot of money for questionable gains at this point with my engine set up and all.

I found an Advent T3 for a good price and think I may try that, then next winter when I upgrade/do some engine work maybe I will go to the TL. The TL is the endstate I am looking for though. Just might not be the right time yet. I have a belief in increasing the skis ability as the riders ability increases, no point in having power that you don't know how to use.

Anybody else feel free to chime in though.

Well,

I will step in here and say STAY AWAY FROM THE ADVENT.

They have had thier problems in the past, and they are still having them. I've recently been through 4 of them, and all of them have had the hard starting problem which will eventually kill your starter and bendix. I'm trying to get a full refund as we speak, but thier communication is very poor when it comes to coughing up.

If anyone out there is still caught up on the whole Advent thing, I have 3 brand new Advents (directly from Advent) that have never been run, well, not for more about 2 minutes. All of them have the hard starting they are renowned for. I'll sell them for $200 each if I cant get any money back frrom Advent.

Sorry about the hijack...with your setup plus a little porting, I'd definately go a toal loss. You can salt proof them no worries, it just takes a little time. The Wax CDI is nice, and the software you use to program is quick and easy. The Inferno, Advent and Vilder are essentially the same ignition, but only one of them has decent after sales support.

I wanted to start racing this year (I spent the last two in Korea). I was going to do my first race at Orange Beach but that got cancelled obviously. I am keeping my eyes open for the next one. Really looking forward to doing it though or just getting to be around it and learn a little more.
