weldwoods contact cement in the red can.

Here is my method...

Two coats on the machine - allowing to dry between coats
Three coats on the turf - allowing to dry between coats

Read the directions too.. There are temp requirements, like hold over 65 for 48 hours. Dont put into service for some days, etc. I'm sure it doesn't fall right off if you cut a corner, but I figure they tell you those kind of things for a reason.

Oh and one thing I don't think I've ever seen mentioned, the glue makes the turf swell a little (like 1/8-1/4 inch over the length of the tray). I ended up with a couple of gaps because I didn't know to compensate.

(Hope no one read that before the edit!)

good call, gj-fx1! thats very true. i like to compensate for that by butting seems together instead of laying them flat side by side, if that makes sense.

Also, if you are turfing footholds, a heat gun will make the turf a little more plyable.

And above all... TAKE YOUR TIME both cutting and laying the turf.

I use two coats of weldwood on the turf, and one on the ski. The ski is not porous, so does not need more than one coat for adhesion.

Make sure you scuff both the turf and ski with 40-60 grit sandpaper really well prior to applying the contact cement.

Are you going with the marbled, purple turf?:cheer:

My turf did not shrink when using contact cement .
I use contact cement a lot at work gluing carpet to stairs and everything must be cut exact and never has anything shrunk when applied with the glue .
that must be a warm weather thing .it's hot when you apply it and it shrinks when cooled off by the glue .the only thing I cut exact was the tray and the rest I left lng and cut to fit by hand after gluing so NO gaps anywhere

heers a hint for seams ,glue first and overlap both pieces and double cut through both layers and it goes together tight.

I first noticed the swelling with the soft underpad stuff. I had a precut piece from hydroturf that fit perfect and after soaking up the glue it ended up near a 1/2 inch too long. The regular turf expanded less -- expanding is mostly ok since in most places it makes it tight, but in some spots it results in a gap.
