Super Jet another help me thread (electrical issue)

finally got the beater square running pretty well and had taken it to the lake to try to dial in the carb.

it started a couple of times fine and i rode it for about 5 minutes. came in to shore to fiddle with the carb and when i went to go back out, no nothing. no cranking, clicking, buzzing, nothing and hasn't since. just silence. it hadn't ever shown any issue with this in our entire (although brief) relationship.

this is what i have checked with no success:

-unpluged and repluged start/stop wires many times
-tried with black and white unplugged
-loosened and retightened battery cables
-checked fuse(looked ok) and put different one in
-banged on starter while pressing green button
-plugged in a known good start/stop switch
-tried jumping off a known good battery
-wiggled every wire i could see
-shouted at it to start!

any ideas?

how do i bypass the start/stop switch? jump the starter relay?

i did a search on the subject and someone said to bypass the start/stop by junping the red and brown wires coming off the e-box side. that just means using a wire to reach down in the harness and make contact with both terminals right?

not sure i was making good contact but nothing happened.

jump the starter out directly to rule that out. use another battery and two other wires. Next step is pull the box apart and start testing in there. Jump out the solenoid to check the wires in the boat. Then try a spare start stop.

There are only a couple parts in there its just trial and error. Make sure to clean all connections and di-electric grease them when going back together.

thanks for the responses.

tom can you elaborate on that statement. do you mean where all the wires ground to a screw in the elec box?

i know it might seem obvious to most but...

i ground from ur battery, it should be grounded on the motor, it might just need to be cleaned up, i just went through this with my buddy sn, we tried everything, and then i checked the ground from the battery to the motor, cleaned it and it fired right up!

I had the ground wire break off on a SN I bought last summer . Same thing, everything worked great leading up to it, crashed and killed the engine, hit the start button and nothing. If it happened that quickly it's most likely an connection issue somewhere IMO.

Yes, in my case the fitting broke off the wire right at the starter. You can run a secondary ground from the battery to another engine bolt (case bolt) with a jumper cable or something similar to bypass the first ground.

ok starter is good. jumped straight to it and it spins.

ground/neg. wire is good. jumped starter using it as my negative connection.

so am i right in assuming it is either the start/stop switch or the starter relay? is there anything else still in question at this point?

thanks for all the help.

yes correct. Move on and test both of them.

I would open the box up and jump the solenoid with a jumper hot wire off the positive side of the battery to the orange wire on the starter solenoid. If it turns over then move on to the start/stop.

There are only 2 wires off the solenoid. One black(ground) and another that is the hot(orange). When the start stop sends power to the hot it activates the solenoid to make a connection between the two larger red power wires. This sends power to your starter and turns the motor over.

You can also clean the connection on the red wire connecting to the starter. If this is corroded it will mess you up.

just finished putting it all back in the ski. it was the ground screw inside the e-box. it was completely loose like i hadn't tightened it at all when i put the new cdi in.

not sure how it started those first couple of times. i havent fired it up since it's late and i am surrounded by old grumpies but the engine turned over with the start button

thanks to all who gave advice. very much appreciated.

i hope i can stop with the help me threads for awhile.

see it pays to check everything. Its usually something simple like that, that gets overlooked or something.

It's good you got it going again.
