Aftermarket reinforced steering cable

Hey guys, I just want to know if anyone is running an aftermarket "reinforced" 6mm steering cable that Blowsion, Thrust and other shops offers.

I have an OEM SJ cable and this one and so not sure which one to run in my next build.

Any inout is welcome.

Thanks

Gera

I'd be curious as well. I'm in need of a new steering cable after this weekend and I'm wondering if I should order the OEM cable from 06-07 or go for the Blowsion cable.

Anyone do a side by side comparison with OEM and Blowsion?

OCD it looks heavy duty but Im afraid about the materials.
The hard users dont care about how much it will last but they want it strong enough to hold out on tricks.
I imagine that it is like motor mounts... There's a lot of newer stuff but major prefer OEMs.

I just installed a Blowsion in my Freak after breaking an oem on my last surf ride. Quality construction is on par with the thrust trim cables. I had to do a little trimming to make it work with my ATP steering, but nothing unusual for custom boats. So far only one ride on it, but I'm happy, and would not hesitate to install on a clients boat.

ATP nozzle or ATP steering Paul?

I have 3 rides on a new cable. It came from Jetmaniac but I'm not sure if it is one of his OEM or a/m (WSM?). I am trying to run an ATP freestyle nozzle and it keeps bending the cable. I've tried 3 different configurations or alterations and all I can get is a few minutes of ride time before it bends and binds up. I am not quite ready to give up on this nozzle yet and I think a good cable is a must!

Hello Gera, Yes long time! Hope all is well

Boyer, ATP steering head on Thrust trim/ protec nozzle.
Everything was pretty straight forward. I trimmed cable about 3/8" on the top and used the universals the cable came with.

Sounds like you are running the cable too tight?? You might need to trim it also?

Can you elaborate on this description a bit more Paul? Do you mean trim the overall length so there isn't any sharp bends from snaking a slightly too long cable thru the hull? It is curved pretty tight where it turns to go up and into the pole but it was buttery smooth with an OEM nozzle

I had to grind some clearance into the pump flange where the cable hits on a full left turn. ScottS thinks that I didn't grind out enough and that I'm still touching and putting a slight bend in the cable. As slight as it is, it's enough deflection from a straight line that it weakens the cable when under load...If that makes any sense...

All I know is that last night me and a member on here installed a Xmetal Pole on a 09 Sj with the blowsion HD Cable... But the steering cable holder bracket used on the xmetal was too small to slide the HD cable threw it.. So we had to cut it open... Member named Twake on here is a beast and customly hacked up the xmetal cable holder to work...

I've broken 6 or more of the aftermarket steering cables. Steering stops used, pump and nozzle all clearanced- corrosion and cheap cable just tear them up, in as little as 4 months!
Finally went to the Blowsion. Much bigger, better chaffing protection, and well sealed. Either end is o-ringed and has seals that actually work, unlike the stock or after market cables. The only issue I have with the Blowsion is a bit of slop in the cable. Maybe it's intentional to protect the cable, maybe not, but I forget about it when I'm riding!

I hear the Blowsion cable is as much as a foot longer. I don't know if I can hide that much extra length without causing some sharp bends.

Dang I don't want to hear this, I just bought an atp nozzle.. Are you running the metal tube with the nozzle? You are supposed to run it if you do not have the beefier 05-07 cable.

From ATP:
2005 - 2007 this is the thicker cable Yamaha part # GM6-61481-10
Support tube is Stainless 10mm OD with 1.5mm wall 145mm long, if you use the cable as listed above then you don't need this tube and it won't fit.

ATP nozzle trashed my SN cable
I contacted them and was basically told: they do that.
Sold it with lots of warnings to the buyer. Never looked back.

@OCD Solutions i have a sbt cable with the ATP nozzle on my RN fixsteer. The reinforcement tube they sent kept moving so i put a little blob of silicone on one end of the reinforcement tube to keep it in place had to grind a good amount on the pump but have a good 15-20 hrs on it no issues

I held my tube in place with adhesive lined heat shrink. It hasn't moved at all.

I really believe that i just haven't ground away enough of the pump yet.

Sorry to threadjack Geraban, hopefully you are getting some good information out of this as well.
