Other adding holes to helmets

Has anyone taken an old mx helmet and added holes to lighten it up and let water drain out? I've got a collection of retired helmets that have never taken hits I just always retire my helmet at the end of the season. I was thinking the impacts from flatwater freestyle are nowhere as big as on a dirtbike so why not lighten up a helmet a bit? For example my snowboard helmet is way thinner an lighter but I want the protection of a full face.

Also when I look at my cross country mountain bike helmet it is the same thickness as my mx helmet but about 50% less material.

It doesn't matter how many holes you put in an mx helmet the padding inside it still absorbs an @$$ load of water and gets heavy. Quit bein cheap and buy a blank giro for a hundred dollars.

I've worn a retired HJC in the water, and after about 5 minutes I forgot it was even on my head, the weight wasn't an issue, and the padding is all closed cell, so it doesn't absorb any water, it was dry by the time we had the skis loaded up and changed out of our wetsuits.

The helmet i'm thinking is an HJC. I pulled out the padding and I can cut out a large portion of it. Sitting here with a paint marker drawing out a cutout pattern. Gonna drill 1'' holes and slot them in a pattern that works with the color scheme.
