Custom/Hybrid a/m hull with 701 or beefy motor in a 2010 SJ hull?

Lately I've been craving more performance out of my ride. I have 1 year old 2010 SJ with almost all I can get for it power wise from its 701 engine.
I am all into surf style when ocean conditions allow it around here (not often), when that's not an option the local swamp is the alternative. Other words, I am looking at all around ski that handles good in the local choppy surf and its fun in the flat water as well.
What would be a better way in your opinion: keep the 2010 hull and get a beefier motor in it or keep the 701 engine and put it in a lighter and better a/m hull?

I say a/m hull that fits your riding preferences first. You gain power feel even while sticking with the same drivetrain (less weight) while also gaining new/better handling that the right a/m hull offers

A bigger motor in a SJ gives you "just" more power.

I can honestly say the A/M hull is the ticket. I have run a 946 DASA, Total Loss, Mag pump, Full Spec 48 Carbed setup in a SJ hull, and a 701 B-pipe with an Advent in a Superfreak, and must say the 701 in the A/M hull is MUCH better. The weight and handling far outweigh the power.................and as has been said, these skis feel considerably more powerful because of weight differences. You can expect to lose 40-60 lbs min, and as much as 75-85 (depending on setup) when you switch. Thats almost 20%.................It will feel like 40% :)

AM hull with a nice ported 701 is the ticket! common D, you rode my set up and see the difference

Yup, night and day difference between 2010 SJ hull and VISION hull both with pretty much same engines/pumps. The Vision is far superior hull than the SJ, hands down. I only need to pay off my SJ :)

Yes! get to work then! :)

AM hull. If you go motor, by the time your ready for a hull, you'll need a rebuild and want to go bigger anyway. Get the hull now which will outlast the motor. You'll always want a bigger motor, but if you get the hull that's right for you, you'll never need another one or a rebuild.

My opinion, stick with what ya got. You can't have mastered your superjet already! I remember talking to you not too long ago about steering options and a few other things. I also have a 2008 superjet, I almost fell into that aftermarket hull craze and large big bores etc. I complained about pearling and not getting it to slide on the waves.. Rickter FR2 seemed the ticket. Hell, I probably bothered every Rickter dealer I know of about ordering myself one. I had cash ready to fire on a full hull, billet pole, steering and whatever I need to swap my stuff. I got quoted $9100 shipped and thats doing it right. I put the debit down for a few day to think about it. I ended up taking my superjet for a few rides and completely discovered riding surf stance has improved my riding in so many ways. I forgot the rickter. My bank account thanks me and now I even bought myself a nice AR-15 to shoot. Only cost me $2006 and im sure it'll weigh out more enjoyment than a $9100 hull! Im just saying, you still owe on your 2010 superjet. Enjoy what ya got and don't worry about what everyone else has. I swear this forum poisons people!

Oh, and riding a hull for 10 min don't justify enough thats its superior. Just don't try those fancy aftermarket hulls! Ignorance is bliss haha.
