A lot more negative feedback than positive for Bruceski

Hate to do this but after learning of yet, more problems with this motor today, I think it is time

There has been too many problems with this motor not to make this thread. One thing leads to another. Nightmare from hell. Be careful what you buy off here even if the member has been here forever

He has been good in communication and fixing problems like the carbs, but overall I'd be careful purchasing from him and won't do so again. I have spent too much money and time making this right. I'm sure Bruce is good guy, I just think I was the unlucky guy that decided to buy this motor

Problems:

-Bad starter ( I let this slide as I had many spares)
-Carb adjusters screws were wrong sizes and bent and stripped the carbs. (Reimbursed $200 for new carbs)
-Didn't check Piston clearance when he built it causing motor to blow
-Head was decked too low in some spots using an improper tool. Jet maniacs machinist said there is no way the ADA head could've properly sealed right because of this.
-Crack in piston sleeve hidden by spray paint. Another crack in the bottom of the cylinder sleeve was found but I think that was because of shipping, as I never noticed a chunk missing out of the cylinder sleeve when I sent it off.
-the cylinder was honed so many times it didn't take much for the machinist to bore it to 82.5

I spent a grand on what I thought was a fresh motor, and basically bought a thousand dollar lemon. I have bought all new parts for it to rebuild it and today I learn from jet maniacs machinist, that the cylinder is un-even in spots and was decked improperly and there are tiny hard to see were cracks in the sleeve. Also that there was no physical possible way the Ada o rings could have properly sealed right. So now I need to pay to have it re sleeved. Basically this cylinder was slapped on here and it has seen much better days. I honestly don't know how I got 8-10 tanks through it.

I don't know if it's Bruce's intention to just slap something so poorly put together and advertise it as a good fresh motor or if he was just absolutely oblivious to all these mistakes.

Many will say well why didn't you notice these problems when purchased. I live an hour and a half from where my skis and this motor sat. Problems weren't discovered until I started to run the motor. The internal problems, oblong cylinder, piston clearance, etc could not have been found without taking it apart. But why would you take apart a fresh motor?

Basically, when it's all said and done, I will have nearly $1800-1900 in this and could've bought a new jet maniac motor with that money and been on the water all summer with no problems.

Live and learn and chalk this one up as a mistake on my part.

not here to bash anyone. Just want others to be aware of my situation with this motor. As stated Bruce has been helpful and I'm sure he is a good guy. He was very helpful in the beginning, but at this point no action from him can make this right

This motor was just poorly put together from the start and falsely advertised and has been one problem after another. And at this point I don't want to hear excuses, like "it was the guy that owned the carbs before me" own up to your mistakes. Maybe you shouldn't be building motors if you can't check simple things and should stick to ripping apart VXR's

Just upsets me that I spend my hard earned money on something like this and the end result has been what I have experienced.

In the end I have just been screwed out of my money, my time I could be riding, etc.

Never have I ever seen so many people screwed over in a hobby. It just seems like way too many people get screwed over with companies, people, etc in jet skis.

Which is why people like Chris, Jetmaniac, will be one of the few to get my money

Well not exactly sure what to say here....most likely will end up long winded.

I sold an engine for $1,000
This was an engine I built and had sitting on the shelf as a backup for myself. Had it sitting long enough and figured I'd sell. I sold it to Rhugo at Daytona this year.

I put $600 in brand new parts on it.

$250 SBT crank
$300 ADA head with 33cc domes
$50 oem crank seals

The top end came with a ski I purchased and I was told had low hours (I did not check piston to wall clearance, I just put it together based on what I was told) Apparently that was incorrect information.

Carbs I went through(jets and fuel pump sides) and must have forgot to check the adjuster screws. I sent a $200 refund because I could not prove they were good or bad. (I did not ask for carbs shipped back to me. Guess I should have now that we are here)

So...I made $200 selling a spare motor I had on the shelf. 62T cases go for about that, a set of aftermarket reeds and manifold included with that as well.

I sold the engine with 33cc domes in it. Rhugo changed them out to 35cc domes then ran it for 8 tanks of gas. There were no water intrusion issues and the head orings were not blowing for those 8 tanks of gas. So unsure how the cylinder was incorrectly decked. When that happens the orings quit very quickly.

Now when I first read all his troubles I actually felt bad, thought to myself....I should buy this motor back and let this guy move on. Then I scrolled down a half a page on his thread and saw all the bad mouthing he decided to do and changed my mind.

Rhugo, had you pmed me about these issues right from the start like multiple people on your thread suggested I would have happily taken care of them, whether buying the motor back or covering rebuild costs. But after reading all the petty junk I've decided to take the high road on this one.

Good luck with your future rebuild and sorry this happened.

8 tanks? Warranty if any only good for about 1 gallon. Either it runs good or it doesnt.

Never asked for a warranty that's why I never asked Bruce for money for rebuild costs. It's my fault I bought such a poorly built motor.

I've had a very reputable jet ski shop here in Chicago take a look at all the motor parts. Within a minute he looks at the cylinder and says "this is oblong, it is not even, there's half your problem" I told him my jetting and turns out on the carbs as well as fuel octane and oil ratio. He said jetting was not the issue, but an improper install.

Today, Jetmaniac calls me at work and says the machinist said the same thing. The cylinder surfaces are uneven.

Hmmmm 2/2 right there

Not looking to start an Internet bash here Bruce, I did not want to make this thread, but felt the need after finding all this out. It has been one problem after another. Like I said, you obviously we're either oblivious to these problems, or you have no business building motors. I don't want your money or help. I did not contact you for a reason. In not looking for money from you to help with a rebuild cost. I'm just warning people to inspect what they buy and not everything is as advertised.

There's nothing you can say or do that will fix it. You built an inferior quality motor and sold it as good.

Case closed
