A better motor mount keeper

Frosty posted this below before in a thread back in 2006. A friend of mine thought of this idea too and we talked about it before. I am wondering why no one still has improved the keeper ? Modified couch mounts seem a better way to go also, combine the two ideas and change mounts every 5 years ? would be less hassle and short ended riding days when the surf is good. What do you guys think would you buy them?

Frosty: "too bad kenney keepers did not curve upward more, and go above the bed plates. Then a reverse set for the rear mounts, and do the same thing, curve up and over the bed plates. So at to act like hooks, not only keeping it from too much forward movement, but also back and up and down movement.

or does that sound stupid? "

I had thought about making something along the lines of the above and was informed that rick roy makes something like it. I was also told by many people what stan had mentioned about ripping out inserts. I would rather pay 30 bucks per motor mount then have to deal with fixing the inserts.

only problem is hull inserts, they WILL rip out and replacing a motor mount is much easier than an insert!

However couch mounts are holding up without tearing the tops off the mounts and are not pulling inserts out. Then they would have to be designed with lots of clearance so the mounts still take up the force ?

its the leverage and impact forces that will rip them out, i would try to design something that gets attached to the hull then goes over the bedplate, idk i just dont want to put any more stress than needed on those inserts

Five years! Thats two years longer than most people own their skis. How hard is it for anyone to bond in a third or fourth set of mounts?

anyone ever hear of an insert ripping out?

yes. and I have seen then vibrated by what I can only imagine was a loose mount and just wallowed the insert out of the hole.

I just dont understand why its soo hard to spring for new mounts? when they are 100 each or more then I might think twice about another method.

most of the time its not even an issue as the motors get pulled enough and you rip a weak mount. change em all, build a bridge and get over it :)

wamiltons has motor mounts he claims to be SUPER strong....can anyone vouch for that?
i feel couch mounts flex almost too much as ive gotten my couplers spread all the apart before and stuck with 4 stretched motor mounts, none broken!

I've had Wammer mounts for probably 7 or 8 years and haven't broken one yet. I have tested them hard with lots of nasty pancakes too.

with or without keepers? and assuming thats you in the sig pic....im amazed by that kind of longevity

Were those used couch mounts possibly weakened from prior use ? Never heard that problem before on here... The Waverunner III ones I have seem very sturdy...
