I am trying to access the starter on the family's 951 XP (i think its a 2000 model). I assume you have to take the exhaust and all that plastic intake BS off before gaining access to the starter motor, correct?

If so how do I unbolt the exhaust chamber from the mani, the bottom bolt is insane to get to. Any special tricks to work around this, or am i just being retarded?

Thanks in advance.

You do not have to or need to remove the exhaust,I would remove the airbox and the part the seat latch is on,you will need either 1/4 drive allen sockets or a long reach 3/8 drive 5mm allen socket to get the mounting bolts off the rear of the starter though, they go through the piece that holds the bottom of the airbox,do yourself a favor and get a mirror and flashlight so you can peek at the two mounting bolts and know exactly what you are dealing with before you start. This is the same starter as used on the Kawi 650-750-800 series engines.

thanks man. Ill give that a try. I assume you take the airbox cover off, then the mounting bolts run straight into the carbs?
