'89 550 rough starting after getting wet?

Got a '89 JS550 that starts right up out of the water, but after running it in the water for a bit (and stopping it), it's extremely hard to start. I have to hold the throttle wide open and crank it for about 20-30 seconds before she'll kick over in the water. Giving her a blast of primer just makes the problem worse.

Any idea what could be causing this? I was thinking the low-end is running a bit rich, but not sure.
